Slack, the ubiquitous team communication platform, believes it's time to bring these AI agents out of the shadows and into the collective spotlight.
Enter Slack Code, a transformative new offering that redefines how teams interact with AI agents, shifting from individual productivity to what Slack terms "multiplayer AI." The era of the lone developer with their bot is ending; the coding agent is officially joining the group chat.
The Code Channel Revolution
At its core, Slack Code introduces dedicated, project-specific channels where AI coding agents can work alongside human teammates. The process is elegantly simple:
- Initiate: Tag an AI agent (like Anthropic's Claude, Cognition's Devin, GitHub Copilot, or OpenAI's ChatGPT) from any Slack conversation.
- Spin Up: The agent automatically creates a new, dedicated "code channel" for the task.
- Collaborate in the Open: Within this channel, everyone has full visibility. Team members can watch the agent's progress, review proposed code changes via familiar diffs, view live HTML previews, and provide real-time feedback or course corrections.
- Archive & Audit: Once the work is done, the channel can archive itself, leaving a searchable record of the entire process – a valuable audit log for recordkeeping and future reference.
